Louise Hay was, without question, my favorite publisher I have ever worked with.
She did not just publish books — she built an entire publishing industry in San Diego, California, after the established houses refused to publish You Can Heal Your Life. She sold it herself, one copy at a time, until the world caught up with her.
She once showed me her original edition of that book. And I will never forget the day she took me to lunch at the Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego, a harpist playing across the room, and told me — simply, and as if it were already settled — that I could do the same thing she had done.
From that day on she lit a fire in me. I have now published more than 19 books with Hay House, and I look forward to doing more with them.
Part of that gift was Reid Tracy, Louise's right hand and the CEO who carried her vision forward. Working with Reid has been one of the great professional relationships of my life — he became a brother to me in publishing.
Losing Louise was a real loss for all of us. It was an honor to be invited to her last birthday before she passed in her 90s, and an honor to have been believed in by her at all.
