Meeting Katie Couric and appearing on the TODAY show was, honestly, a dream of mine long before it happened. The day it did, it felt exactly like a dream come true.
Katie has been one of the leading broadcasters of her generation, and having her support meant a great deal — especially because she is a woman who has consistently used her platform for wellness, prevention and cancer screening. She turned private grief into public good and got millions of people to take screening seriously. That is a rare thing to do with fame.
To this day I'm a huge fan of hers, and I'm grateful we've stayed friends.
