The Hunger Code

With Dr. Jason Fung

The Jorge Cruise Podcast

The Jorge Cruise Podcast

Dr. Jason Fung — the world's leading fasting physician — joins me in person for the first time ever to unpack his brand-new book, The Hunger Code. We go past physical hunger into the two hungers almost nobody treats: emotional and social.

And we take on the most controversial topic in weight loss today: GLP-1s and their adaptability — the science showing effectiveness runs out at roughly 24 months. Are they a solution, or a jump-start? Get the study before it drops.

The Jorge Cruise Podcast — an all-new episode September 14 with Dr. Jason Fung

The story behind the episode

Years in the making. One afternoon in San Diego.

Dr. Jason Fung and I go back years. He wrote the introduction to my last book, The Cruise Control Diet — long before fasting was a household word, he was willing to put his name behind my work. We've talked on the podcast before, but always at a distance: two cities, two screens, a conversation through glass.

This time was different. For the first time ever, we sat down in person — same room, same table, right here in San Diego — to talk about his brand-new book, The Hunger Code. And what started as a conversation about a book became something much bigger.

The three hungers

Every diet on earth treats physical hunger. Dr. Fung's new work argues that's why almost all of them fail. In this conversation we take apart all three — physical, emotional, and social hunger — and what actually turns each one off. If you've ever eaten when you weren't hungry, or stayed on a plan for everyone but yourself, this is the part that will stay with you.

The breakthrough: the 24-month truth about GLP-1s

This may be the single most important distinction I have ever received. The effectiveness of a GLP-1 is not open-ended. The science points to a ceiling of roughly 124 weeks — about two years and five months — with the practical average landing nearer 104 weeks, which is exactly two years.

So if you are on a GLP-1, or considering one, prepare for it to be a jump-start — not a lifestyle. Used well, those two years buy you the runway to build the things that actually compound: proper nutrition, muscle, movement, and yes, sleep. That's how a medication becomes an accelerant for longevity instead of a ceiling.

Math check, since I promised one: 124 weeks ÷ 52 = 2.38 years (about 2 years, 5 months). 104 weeks ÷ 52 = 2.0 years exactly. The two numbers aren't the same figure — 124 is the outer edge, 104 is the average. Both point to the same lesson: a two-year window, not forever.
