Fat used to be considered Enemy #1 in our diets, but there’s been a complete shift in the past several years. Now, doctors and nutritionists are confirming more and more that some types of dietary fats are actually essential nutrients for a healthy mind and body. Not all fats are created equal, though – the healthiest types of dietary fat are unsaturated fats. For reference, the longer, more scientific names for these fats are:
Monounsaturated fatty acids: This type of fat is found in a variety of foods and oils.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids: This type of fat is found mostly in plant-based foods and oils.
Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3, found in some types of fatty fish, appears to decrease the risk of coronary artery disease.
It’s a fact…our body needs some healthy fat to function normally, and to thrive. The bad fats to avoid include trans fats, as well as saturated fats. But if you try to avoid eating all fats, you risk getting insufficient amounts of fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Also – I’ve seen it time and time again with my clients – if you remove fat from your diet completely, you may be tempted to replace it with processed, “fat-free” foods rather than naturally-lower fat foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In my new Cruise Control Fasting program, I encourage people to make fat 50% of their overall diet! There are many ways to enjoy healthy fats as part of a delicious, healthy, balanced diet.
Like me, my friends at FBOMB are big believers in the benefits of using fat as a healthy fuel source. They make a variety of amazing products, including natural oils and nut butters, that make it really easy for me to take my fat on the go. They like to say that fat is smart fuel, so let’s dig into the science a little bit. Using fat for fuel shifts your metabolism from burning glucose as your primary fuel to burning fat instead. When you replace carbs with fat for fuel, you turn on your body’s ability to burn body fat. Which can help you lose belly fat fast, and better age and disease-proof your body.
Two of my favorite sources of healthy fats that I can easily grab on the go are FBOMB’s naturaloils — like avocado, olive and MCT oil – which are all a tasty complement to salads and vegetables. These oils are a big part of my individual diet, as well as my Cruise Control Fasting program, and I always have a few packs on me. The cutting-edge packaging is totally airtight, so there’s no worry about spills, and the oil stays fresh until you’re ready to use it.
And as you can see in the photo above, I’m obsessed with FBOMBnut butters. They are so easy to eat while I’m running around during the day, so I always have a bunch of them stashed away in my pockets, my gym bag, and the car. Along with my favorite celery juice, I really enjoy having some macadamia nut butter in the afternoon. It feels like instant energy, and I know I’ll stay full and satisfied for hours.
I can honestly say that FBOMBoils have become a main staple of my personal Cruise Control Fasting plan. Besides the convenience of their packaging, they use the highest quality oils that are all 100% pure, fresh, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, minimally processed – and where available, organic. The couple who founded this brand are strong supporters of the low-carb/high-fat (LCHF) diet, and they wanted to easier fulfill people’s desires to increase their intake of good fats, and wanted to cater to active people like me, who wanted to get their fats on the go more easily.
The nut butters are just plain delicious – and versatile! I enjoy them all the time on their own, straight out of the pack…but I also get creative with my boys when it’s time to have something decadent. For those who have a sweet tooth like us, you can melt down some nutter butter over ice cream for a frosty treat, or you can make indulgent nut butter fat bombs to satisfy your dessert cravings.
Fat is smart fuel, and FBOMB products are thoughtfully designed for those who want to take their fats on the go! So if you’re ready to add more healthy fats into your diet and you want to find out more, or check out some delicious recipes, head over to FBOMB’s website. We’re all SO busy these days, like little hamsters in a wheel! I’m literally scheduled down to the minute on most weekdays, so I always have the stress of something going long and then being late for the next thing. I know many of you can relate to that; being so scheduled that we don’t take any downtime. We’re all juggling so many activities in our schedules and dealing with so many stressors, it’s not surprising that so many of us are not living our best, healthiest lives. Between home, family, work, and all the other elements that contribute to our lives, we barely get a moment to catch our breath and relax. Gathering for dinner is a great opportunity to unplug and reconnect with loved ones, but that can be stressful too — especially if you’re the one responsible for getting food on the table! Sometimes it feels as though there are simply not enough hours in the day to get to everything on your list.
So what if I told you that there’s a totally game-changing meal delivery service out there that is not only quick and convenient, but also affordable? I’m talking about chef-prepared, genuinely healthy meals with optimal taste and nutrition. Meals that you can feel great about eating and sharing with your family, so you can spend less time prepping and cooking, and more time connecting. My friends at Factor 75 provide this amazing service, and I’m excited to tell you more about it.
Whether you’re looking for meals all week long or if you just want to have a few back-up meal options on hand, Factor 75 works for all types of lifestyles. It’s really simple to join, because it’s designed for busy people like you and me. You choose a meal plan, you pick your meals from their weekly rotating menu, and you’re set! Each meal is cooked with care by their chefs and delivered to you — fresh. Then, just heat, eat and enjoy – either at home or on the go. These guys don’t mess around, everything is brilliantly prepared and never frozen. You can choose as little as 4 or as many as 12 meals per week, depending on what works best for your life and your family. And you can rest assured there are no sneaky commitments here! You can pause, cancel or change your Factor 75 meal plan at any time.
You may think that a meal delivery service is out of reach for you, but Factor 75 provides an impeccable level of quality for the cost. Their meals are prepared by gourmet chefs, who use the finest ingredients and ensure the dishes are as appealing as they are wholesome. Rather than going out and buying tons of produce and groceries each week that just go to waste if you don’t eat them fast enough, you can use your food budget to have fresh meals delivered instead. If you do the math, you may find that you’re actually saving on your food bills.
Their in-house dietitians also assess each and every dish, to make sure that each meal is nutritionally-optimized. We’re all looking for ways to sneak more nourishing food into our diets, and Factor 75 makes that task really easy. Their meals are healthy, tasty and convenient, making it easy to reach any health and fitness goal without sacrificing time or good taste. Factor 75 meals are packed with lean proteins, low glycemic carbs, and lots of healthy fat. Because when you eat real food that fuels you, it makes you feel good — and that’s what these guys are all about.
What’s also cool about Factor 75 is their overall philosophy as a company. Their meal plans aren’t about dieting…they say it’s about performance eating. They want to help their customers eat the very best cuisine and also get the most out of their valuable time. Whoever you are and whatever you’re busy doing each day, my friends at Factor 75 believe that eating better means living better. Improving your overall health with foods that are good for your body and your soul.
There are no compromises when it comes to the ingredients in Factor 75 meals. They are grass-fed and pastured, gluten-free, no antibiotics or hormones, no refined sugars, soy-Free, and non-GMO. And while the team at Factor 75 have their own philosophy on what makes a healthy meal, they still have a selection of meals that accommodate all types of diets like Paleo, Keto, and dairy-free.
So if you’re looking for an affordable, time-saving, and nutritious solution to your family’s biggest dinner dilemmas, head over to Factor 75’s website to check out their menus and find out more about their plans. And to stay on top of all things related to Factor 75’s community, you can follow them on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
It’s been a really exciting couple of weeks for me, due to the launch of the Cruise Control Fasting Revolution and the release of my new book, The Cruise Control Diet! The book has been creating a lot of buzz, and I’m so grateful that the word is spreading far and wide about this truly life-changing weight loss plan.
What is Cruise Control Fasting? It’s my spin on the popular trend of intermittent fasting, which is an incredibly powerful tool in transforming your health. Mainly characterized by limiting your eating window to 8 hours, then fasting for 16 hours, it’s very effective in helping you lose weight and belly fat, age and disease-proof your body, and increase energy. But there is a major downside to typical IF protocols – you’re hungry! However, with Cruise Control Fasting, hunger isn’t an issue because I show you how to “cheat the fast” with healthy fats that keep you feeling full and satisfied.
There have been so many blessings to celebrate this month, and when life provides those moments, I like to kick back with a glass of wine! Enjoying some robust vino with good friends over a delicious meal is one of life’s great joys. And depending on what type of wine you choose – and how much you have – it can be a healthy addition to a well-balanced diet. In fact, one of the facets of the heart-healthy Mediterranean diet (in addition to olive oil, vegetables, and fish) is wine. There is a magical, natural polyphenol in red wine called resveratrol that has multiple benefits, including an increased life span. Not a bad side-benefit to sipping on some wine.
On my Cruise Control Fasting plan, you’re allowed to indulge in some wine up to three times per week, if you want. It’s ok to enjoy some wine in moderation during your eating window — cheers to that! However, there are some guidelines to keep in mind, which I mention in the book — organic and sulfate-free wines are best. And beyond that, there is a family of wines that I absolutely love and have been recommending to everyone – Dry Farm Wines. I like these wines so much that I actually suggest them in the book!
My friends at Dry Farm Wines curate the finest sustainably-grown, natural wines that they lab-test for the highest standard of health. They produce high-quality varieties from small family farms that are all organic, sugar-free, carb-free, and mold-free. They take the time to test each wine to guarantee that it is low in sulfates, and they never include any additives. Their wines taste fresh and vibrant; a special treat to enjoy as part of an overall, healthy lifestyle.
If you check out the testimonials on the Dry Farm Wines website, you’ll see a who’s who of the wellness world, singing the praises of these tasty wines. They are pure, artisanal, and deliciously clean. I was so thrilled to give this wonderful family of wines a shout-out in The Cruise Control Diet, and I love the whole team over there! Thank you for joining in the celebration when the book came out earlier this month.
Because wine enjoyment is an important part of living well, the team at Dry Farm Wines searches far and wide to find world-class, whole, and natural family-farmed wines that are naturally low in alcohol, and sugar and carb free. They even have a great Friends of the Farm Wine & Social Club, if you want to receive a unique selection of biodynamic natural wines. Find out more about all of these beautiful, healthy wines at Dry Farm Wines’ website, and follow the Dry Farms Wine community on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Have you joined the Cruise Control Fasting Revolution yet? My new book, The Cruise Control Diet, just dropped earlier this month and it’s available wherever books are sold, so go pick one up! It flew to the top of Amazon’s Diet and Nutrition book categories in just the first few days, so I’m really excited that so many people have been interested in checking it out.
Cruise Control Fasting is my own take on the popular trend of intermittent fasting, which is an incredibly powerful tool in transforming your body and your health. In over two decades of being a fitness trainer and wellness expert, I’ve never seen anything more effective for blasting belly fat fast…and there are tons of other health benefits, as well. You’ll lose weight, you’ll have more energy, and this plan will also age and disease-proof your body! How? There’s a very cool process that happens when we fast called autophagy, a cellular self-cleansing process that breaks down and recycles damaged molecules and cells in our bodies. And it does all of this without any pangs of hunger, because on my plan you “cheat the fast” with healthy fats that keep you satiated.
In the book, you’ll find all sorts of amazing drink and snack recipes that you can enjoy during your 16-hour fasting window. But an equally important feature of my Cruise Control Fasting plan is that during your 8-hour eating window, you want to stick to an anti-inflammatory diet consisting of 50% fats, 30% healthy carbs, and 20% protein. This combination of foods and nutrients will help you optimize all your meals, and set yourself up for success! There are a ton of savory recipes in the book that are super-delicious, but for those of you who have a sweet tooth, I have plenty in the book for you, too.
In fact, me and my boys all have a little sweet tooth, so I always try to include a dessert or treat into my 8-hour eating window. Which brings me to my very favorite cookies, called Keto-Snap. I talk about my great love for these cookies in the book, and I also provide a delicious recipe for Snap Cookie Ice-Cream Sliders, tasty ice cream sandwiches made with these crunchy cookies.
Keto-Snaps taste like vanilla and cinnamon, they are Cruise Control Fasting–friendly (in your 8-hour eating window), and they are wheat-free, gluten-free, preservative- and additive-free, AND non-GMO. They won’t spike your blood sugar or signal insulin to store calories as fat, so you can enjoy these guilt-free anytime you want a sweet treat. My whole family loves Keto-Snaps, and we literally take them with us wherever we go — I always have a box in the car and in my gym bag. Whether you enjoy them on the go, or at the dinner table layered with other satisfying ingredients, you can’t go wrong with these crispy cookies.
I was so thrilled to include a quality product like Keto-Snaps in The Cruise Control Diet, and I love the whole team over there! Thank you for joining in the celebration when the book came out earlier this month.
Keto-Snaps were made to satisfy those who want a sweet treat, while also providing meaningful nutrition from whole food ingredients. Do yourself a favor and get some of these delicious, guilt-free cookies — I know you’ll thank me. Visit their website for more information about their products, for creative recipes, and more. You can also follow all that’s going on in the Keto-Snapscommunity on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The latest dietary guidelines, which help promote health and prevent chronic disease, emphasize the importance of consuming a healthy, whole diet including fruits, vegetables, dairy, grains, proteins, and oils. These foods should be eaten within a sensible calorie level, and with limited amounts of saturated fats, added sugars, and sodium. Sounds reasonable, right? After writing over 30 books on weight loss and nutrition, I am a proponent of an anti-inflammatory diet that includes all of these food groups — in the right portions, and eaten at the right times, of course.
Of all the essential food groups, dairy gets the worst rap! Why? Because the type of fat found in whole-fat dairy products is saturated fat, which doctors warn can increase your risk of heart disease, as well as “bad” LDL cholesterol. Additionally, some people have a hard time digesting dairy or are lactose intolerant, which makes them want to steer clear completely.
However, I believe that dairy is an important contributor to a healthy diet, especially due to the calcium benefits. There is definitely more good news than bad when it comes to dairy — the key is to make smart, thoughtful choices when selecting your dairy. For example, many nutrition experts suggest having fat-free or low-fat dairy products to make dairy more accessible. They also recommend yogurt as a preferred form of diary, since it provides lots of protein and calcium, and it may also optimize healthy gut bacteria.
I love getting my dairy in the form of yogurt since it’s so versatile, and one of my all-time favorite brands is Peak Yogurt. What makes Peak so special, why do I go out of my way to get my yogurt delivered from these guys? Get this…they make Triple Cream yogurt, which has 17% milkfat. The founder, Evan, believes that milkfat is the best part of dairy, with all its silky richness and fat-soluble nutrients, so he adds a LOT of cream to his yogurt! It’s thick, creamy, and really satisfying, so it doesn’t need a ton of sugar or other additives to satiate and fuel your body.
Additionally, because we all need to be more aware of where our food comes from and how it’s sourced, it’s comforting to know that the folks at Peak get their organic milk and cream from three family-owned dairies in Oregon. They believe cows are healthiest and produce the most nourishing milk when they can graze on fresh pasture grasses, and when they’re treated in a humane way. Pretty simple concept, but you’d be surprised at how many companies don’t consider those standards when sourcing their ingredients.
Yogurt can be eaten in so many ways — it’s a really flexible ingredient that can be used in tons of different recipes and types of cuisine. Peak’s plain unsweetened yogurt is also keto-friendly and low-carb, which appeals to a lot of different eating plans. So, let’s stop being so afraid of diary and enjoy it again! With Peak’s variety of flavors, you can find a delicious option that suits any meal. One of my favorite tips: I love to replace sour cream or mayonnaise in recipes with Peak Yogurt.
Peak Yogurt is packed with live and active cultures, plus probiotics, which we know is great for digestion and overall gut health. They’re also adamant about limiting added sugar in their foods, which we know is more damaging than almost any other substance we can consume. Their yogurt packs are really easy to grab when you’re on the go, so all you need to do is throw in some fruit or granola and you have a full, satisfying breakfast or mid-day snack. And for all of you out there who like to snack on veggies and dip, Peak has awesome recipes on their website for delicious dips — and even desserts!
Peak Yogurt is truly the gold standard, and they make delicious products that will inspire you to embrace dairy. Check out their full line of products on their website and give it a try! And to stay on top of all that’s going on in the Peak Yogurt community, follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
In the past few years, I’ve become a big believer in FAT! You heard me right, I love eating fat, and it’s become my mission to spread the word about how important good fats are, and how they’re actually essential to a healthy diet. Eating more fat has completely changed the structure my own diet and eating habits, and it’s literally the magic sauce in my Cruise Control Fasting program. It’s the amazing element that makes my spin on intermittent fasting possible.
For many years, it was assumed that eating fat would make you fat, but recently doctors and researchers have been busting that myth more and more, and we now know that healthy fats are good for our bodies, our brains, and even our hearts. In fact, it’s been shown that monounsaturated fats may improve blood cholesterol levels and decrease your risk of heart disease. So what kind of fats should you be incorporating into your diet?
Two of my favorite sources are nuts and healthy oils. In addition to lots of nourishing fats, nuts are a fantastic source of protein, fiber, and lots of vitamins and minerals. By extension, I have been totally obsessed with nut butters, and I’m constantly finding new ways to work them into my meals and snacks. Oils — like avocado, olive and MCT oil– are not only heart-healthy, they’re also a delicious complement to salads and vegetables. You can even add MCT oil to your coffee!
My friends at FBOMB love fat just as much as I do – so much, in fact, that they created a whole line of amazing, portable, healthy fats that are really easy to grab on the go. They designed all their packaging in such a brilliant way, I can throw their oils right into my pocket or in my bag and they’ll stay airtight and fresh until I’m ready to use it.
Their oils have really become a staple of my Cruise Control Fasting plan. Besides the convenience and ease of their thoughtful packs, they use the highest quality oils that are all 100% pure, fresh, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, minimally processed – and where available, organic. You can really taste the care they put into their delicious, versatile oils.
The couple who founded this brand are strong supporters of the low-carb/high-fat (LCHF) diet, and they’re dedicated to making excellent products that help people live a healthier lifestyle. They understood people’s desires to increase their intake of good fats, and wanted to cater to active folks like them (and like ME!) who wanted to get their fats on the go more easily. So, they created FBOMB and perfected their genius, durable packaging, so that you can have delightful fat options no matter where you are.
Nut butters are a fantastic source of healthy fats too, but obviously, it’s not very convenient to lug a jar around with you all day! However, thanks to FBOMB, you can take tasty, handy packs of nut butters with you. They’re so easy to throw into your bag or the car — all you need to do is give the pack a little squeeze to mix up the nut butter and it’s ready to eat. Salted Chocolate Macadamia butter? Yes, please! And yes — it’s just as delicious as it sounds. The perfect solution when you want a simple, yummy, high-fat snack.
Fat is smart fuel, and FBOMB products are designed for those who are on the go! So if you’re ready to add more healthy fats into your diet and you want to find out more, head over to FBOMB’s website. And to keep up with all the latest happenings in the world of portable fats, check them out on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
