I’ve been a busy guy in the past couple of weeks since my new book, “The Cruise Control Diet,” dropped. The book, which went to the top of both the Diet and Nutrition categories on Amazon, details my spin on intermittent fasting, where you select an 8-hour eating window, and you fast for the remaining 16 hours. I’ve never seen anything more effective for losing belly fat fast and transforming health, but there’s a catch to traditional intermittent fasting — you’re hungry! That’s what makes my Cruise Control Fasting plan different and BETTER…I show you how to “cheat” the fast with healthy fats, so that you never feel hungry.

A staple of my Cruise Control Fasting plan is, of course, my Cruise Control Coffee! It’s one of the Burn Zone Breakfast Beverages you can enjoy during your 16-hour fast, and it’ll keep you satiated for hours until it’s time to have your first meal. All of the ingredients work quickly and effectively to curb your hunger, all while you enjoy a delicious cup of hot, creamy, frothy coffee. So without further ado, here’s the recipe.

Cruise Control Coffee

*In this recipe you can choose between MCT or coconut oil, and between grass-fed butter and ghee.

Servings: 1

  • 1 cup (8 to 12 ounces) coffee
  • 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons MCT oil or coconut oil
  • Pinch of Himalayan pink salt
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee
  • 1 tablespoon Cruise Control–friendly sweetener *I love Swerve!

*Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until creamy.

In the recipe above that I mention that you should use a Cruise Control–friendly sweetener, and one of my absolute favorites is Swerve! My friends at Swerve, who make a variety of sweeteners to compliment any recipe (as well as cake and cookie mixes), like to say it’s the ultimate sugar replacement. Why? Because Swerve has zero-calories, it’s non-glycemic, and it measures cup-for-cup like regular sugar. Me and my boys have a serious sweet tooth — so besides using Swerve in my Cruise Control beverages, we use it all the time to make delicious, sugar-free treats.

Fat used to be considered Enemy #1 in our diets, but there’s been a complete shift in the past several years. Now, doctors and nutritionists are confirming more and more that some types of dietary fats are actually essential nutrients for a healthy mind and body. Not all fats are created equal, though – the healthiest types of dietary fat are unsaturated fats. For reference, the longer, more scientific names for these fats are:

  • Monounsaturated fatty acids: This type of fat is found in a variety of foods and oils.
  • Polyunsaturated fatty acids: This type of fat is found mostly in plant-based foods and oils.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3, found in some types of fatty fish, appears to decrease the risk of coronary artery disease.

It’s a fact…our body needs some healthy fat to function normally, and to thrive. The bad fats to avoid include trans fats, as well as saturated fats. But if you try to avoid eating all fats, you risk getting insufficient amounts of fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids.

Also – I’ve seen it time and time again with my clients – if you remove fat from your diet completely, you may be tempted to replace it with processed, “fat-free” foods rather than naturally-lower fat foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In my new Cruise Control Fasting program, I encourage people to make fat 50% of their overall diet! There are many ways to enjoy healthy fats as part of a delicious, healthy, balanced diet.

Being a fitness trainer for over two decades, it’s my job to stay on top of all the latest fitness trends and workouts. From cardio, to weight training, to yoga and Pilates, I’ve tried it all and have worked many different exercise elements into my clients’ routines, depending on their individual needs and goals. But after all these years, there are certain workouts that have risen to the top of my list. HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is one of those methods.

HIIT is a combination of short, very-high intensity bursts of cardio exercise, followed by equal or longer periods of rest. For example, 30-60 seconds of sprinting, followed by a minute or two of walking. This type of training gets — and keeps — your heart rate up, and burns more fat in less time. HIIT is more effective than steady-state cardio because the intensity is higher. It speeds up your metabolism even more, helping you burn a maximum number of calories throughout the day.

Now, a HIIT workout is at the core of a really cool, cutting-edge fitness system called Vasper, which jams the benefits of over two hours of high-intensity exercise into a 21-minute session.
