My Favorite Soup

One of my favorite meals to indulge in the “Boost Zone”, or my eating window, is soup! It’s quick and easy to prepare, delicious, and I seem to never run out of ideas for different variations!

One of my favorites is Broccoli Cheese Soup! And I’m going to share with you my recipe below:

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Servings: 8

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons grass-fed salted butter 1 stalk celery, chopped
1 onion, chopped
11/2 pounds broccoli florets, chopped 3 cups chicken broth or bone broth 1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste 3 cups Cheddar cheese, grated 1 pouch Parmesan crisps (Parm Crisps)*

Instructions:

1. In a stockpot, melt the butter over medium heat. Cook the celery and onion in the butter until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the broccoli, then cover with the stock. Simmer for 10 minutes.

2. Reduce the heat and stir in the garlic powder and paprika and salt and pepper if desired. Add the Cheddar cheese gradually and continue to stir until melted.

3.Top with Parm Crisps.*

4. Serve and enjoy.

*Note: Parm Crisps are yummy chips made from real cheese and other natural ingredients, and you can find them on parmcrisps.com or at Amazon. You can use original or jalapeño (if you want a kick) as your soup topping. I’ve become a bit of a cheesehead because of these zero- carb healthy fats. I love to put these on salads and soups, and I definitely love them for a quick snack. Just be careful! Parm Crisps are highly addictive.

These are my favorite no-carb, gluten-free snack. They come in 5 different delicious flavors! You have to try these if you like cheese and want a cracker alternative that is #CruiseControl approved.

I get a lot of questions about saunas and if they are good for you, what the benefits are, etc. As you have seen on my social, I am in my sauna a lot. I work in it, I go before I go to bed to calm me down, I go in when I’m stressed, even my kids love to use it! 

Although saunas have been popular for centuries, they are not usually thought of for treatments in traditional medicine. The stigma is that they have been unbearably hot, steamy rooms in which breathing can be difficult.  But the saunas of today have technologically evolved from the harsh, 200°+ rooms they originated from to a soothing, healthy heat. 

My favorite brand is Sunlighten. Their infrared technology brings forth a therapeutic treatment that is not only relaxing but also clinically shown beneficial for your health. What is Infrared?

Perspiring is part of the complex thermoregulatory process of the body that increases the heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate causing the body to burn calories.  Studies have shown that a 30 minute IR sauna session can burn an upwards of 600 calories! A 2009 study indicated that Sunlighten infrared saunas can lower weight and waist circumference in just a 3-month period. 

Cardiovascular: 

I am known for shortcuts to health and fitness and wow, if you can get a cardiovascular “workout” while sitting in the sauna.. I think I just found the #1 shortcut! During a 10-20 minute sauna session, heart rate increases by 50-75% which provides the same metabolic result as physical exercise.  There is a nominal effect on blood pressure because the heat also causes blood vessels in skin to expand to accommodate increased blood flow. A 2005 clinical study conducted by the University of Missouri, Kansas City showed that Solocarbon FIR sauna treatments dilated blood vessels and reduced the volume of their inner lining concluding that Solocarbon FIR reduced both systolic and diastolic blood pressure with regular use.

Increase Cell Health & Boost Immunity:

Several studies have shown that near infrared properties can help improve cell health, enhance muscle recovery and boost immune defenses.  A NASA study concluded that NIR LED technology can quadruple cell health and tissue growth.  Another study done at the Medical College of Wisconsin demonstrated that LED-produced near infrared helps promote cell health and regeneration.  Lastly, a study from The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology concluded that LED near infrared (NIR) restores enzyme activity and reduces cell death by half.
 

Anti-Aging 

One of my favorite parts of it, that I’m sure you’ll love to! IR improves circulation, expels dirt & chemicals and removes dead cells on the surface of the skin resulting in a soft, clear complexion.  A study published in The Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy showed significant improvements in skin appearance after just 12 weeks of NIR therapy. Participants experienced a reduction in wrinkles and crow’s feet, as well as improved overall skin tone, including softness, smoothness, elasticity, clarity and firmness.

As a single working father of two it is so important to me that I get quality sleep at night so that I can wake up and work and be on dad mode each day.

After long weekends spending time with my family, whether we go on hikes, spend the day at the beach, or go to my boys’ sporting events, we all need a way to recover and get ready for the work/school week ahead.
